MAD DOGS AND ENGLISH MEN
MAD DOGS AND ENGLISH MEN: meaning and examples
Today we continue with our summer idioms! Actually, more than an idiom, today we have a saying. A saying is a well-known phrase or statement that expresses somthing about life that most people believe is wise and true.
Today's summer saying is: Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noonday sun.
It means: the weather is so hot that only a very crazy person would go outside at midday.
Example:
Ronald: Shall we go for a run?
Michael: Are you mad? It must be 35 degrees outside! Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noonday sun. And I am neither of them!
I hope all of you have a pleasant day and stay cool!
