MAKE-3: meaning and examples
Good morning.
Hoy y la semana que viene estudiaremos unas expresiones con el verbo to make que comunican la idea de tener éxito o conseguir algo.
To make a deadline = to finish something before the final date. (Acabar o entregar algo antes de la fecha límite.)
Example 1: Now that the computers aren't working, it is going to be impossible to make the deadline this Friday. We only have 24 hours.
(Ahora que los ordenadores no funcionan, va a ser imposible entregar el trabajo para este viernes. Sólo tenemos 24 horas.)
To make the headlines = to be an important enough piece of news to be reported. (Ser una noticia suficientemente importante para ser incluida en el periódico, el telediario, etc.)
Example 2: The results of the elections in Catalonia made the headlines in France.
(Los resultados de las elecciones en Cataluña fueron noticia en Francia.)
