MAKE OR BREAK: meaning and examples
Today we are continuing or series of 'OR' expressions.
Today's expression is: MAKE OR BREAK
It refers to: the thing that will determine if an action succeeds or fails.
Example 1:
The company is doing so poorly that it really needs to win the contract. It's a question of make or break. (= If they win the contract, they'll 'make' it, or be successful. If they lose the contract, it will 'break' them; their business will fail.)
Example 2:
Alice will be giving a make or break performance in the competition. If she comes in first, she'll get a scholarship and a huge cash prize. If she doesn't place in one of the top three positions, she'll lose her place on the team.
Tomorrow is a bank holiday in Spain, so there will be no Daily Vitamin. And Friday is a "bridge" ("puente" in Spanish) so there will be no Essential Weekly Vitamin on Friday. However, on Friday we will briefly explain how to say "puente" in English in these holiday contexts.
