MAN-1: meaning and examples

Hello Daily Vitamin followers. Good morning! I hope you had a nice weekend.

This week we are going to look at uses and expressions with the noun MAN. Most of you know that a MAN is an adult male human being; but did you know that MAN can also be a verb?

Meaning of MAN as a verb: to work at a place or be in charge of a place or a machine.

Example 1:
The telephones are manned 24 hours a day, thanks to the volunteers.

Example 2:
The soldiers manned the barricades around the city.

The verb MAN is not used that often compared to the noun. Therefore, for the rest of the week we are going to look at different expressions that use this noun.

Today's expression is: TO BE SOMEBODY'S MAN

Meaning: to be the best or most suitable person for a particular job, etc.

Example 3:
If you need a good controller or financial director, Patxi is your man! Why don't you give him a call? I know he's looking for work.
