MATCH-4: meaning and examples
Today we finish our short series of Daily Vitamins about expressions with the English word MATCH.
Today's expression is: to match somebody or something against/with somebody or something
Meaning: to arrange for someone to compete in a game or competition against someone else.
Example 1:
In the first round we are matched against the team that won the championship last year. It's going to be a difficult game.
Example 2:
Germany has been matched against Holland in the semi-final.
