MATTER (VERB)
MATTER (verb): meaning and examples
Hello. I hope you are having a good day.
In another lesson we looked at the NOUN matter and today we look at the VERB to matter.
It means: to be important. It is often used with the 'dummy' pronoun 'it' (it matters), especially in questions and negative statements when you are talking about whether something is important.
Example 1: Making sure that my students learn English matters to me; it's very important to me.
Example 2:
Speaker 1: Does it matter if I don't come to the meeting tomorrow? I have a lot of work to do.
Speaker 2: Yes it does matter; we're going to talk about next year's budget. Please don't miss it.
Have a great day!
