Meaning: the main ways that large numbers of people receive information and entertainment; for example, television, radio, newspapers, magazines, etc.

Example 1:
The economic crisis is everywhere in the media. It can be quite depressing if you pay attention to it. 

Example 2:
The media were accused of influencing the final decision of the trial. The lawyers of the defendant have asked for a new trial.

We talk of the mass media when the source reaches large number of people (for example, the television).
