MORE BAKING VOCABULARY (CARAMELISE): meaning and examples

Hello everyone. I hope all of you enjoyed your weekend.

This week we are going to look at some more verbs related to BAKING. As we explained last month, BAKING is cooking done in an oven. (For a comparison of cooking and baking, see this Daily Vitamin from December 9, 2014: https://www.ziggurat.es/daily-vitamin/?vitamin=2469.)

Today's verb is: TO CARAMELISE

Definition: the process of heating sugar at a high temperature so that it turns to a golden-brown to dark brown colour and produces a sweet, nutty, or buttery flavour.

Sentence 1: I don't really eat sugar anymore, but I remember I used to love flan bathed in caramelised sugar and topped with whipped cream.

Sentence 2: These sweet potatoes will caramelise slightly in the oven, which will give them a sweet crunch, while the inside will remain creamy.

That's it for today. I'll see you tomorrow with another baking verb

All the best!
