MORE INSPIRING QUOTES: FRANKLIN D. ROO: meaning and examples
Good morning / afternoon / evening, everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope you had a great weekend and I also hope that your week has started off well.
Back in September of 2023 we did a week of Daily Vitamins about quotes from some famous people (Steve Jobs, Gandhi, Theodore Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Lao Tzu). This week we are going to look at a few more famous quotes.
Today we look at a famous quote by Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who was Theodore Roosevelt's fifth cousin. Many referred to him as FDR.
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. (Franklin D. Roosevelt)
This quote emphasizes the fact that fear can be worse than any real dangers or challenges that we face in life. It encourages us to consciously face our difficulties head-on. I know that a lot of English students are terrified to speak, for example. But if you don't leave your comfort zone, from where you never speak English, then you will never improve your speaking abilities.
I often encourage students to practice speaking when they are by themselves. That might seem silly, but it can be very helpful. Having a conversation with an imaginary speaking partner means that you will have to go through the mental strain of creating the sentences that you wish to say. And by practicing by yourself, it can boost your confidence before your next "live" English conversation with another human. You feel less fear in the future.
If you really want to improve your speaking abilities, you have to crash through that "terror barrier" and leave your comfort zone. There is nothing to fear but your fear.
I hope you have a wonderful day. We'll be back tomorrow with another famous quote.
All the best!
