MOTHER VOCABULARY (MATERNAL)

Good morning / afternoon / evening everyone, depending on when you read this. Happy Monday. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope all of you had an excellent weekend. 

Since May 1st was Mother's Day in Spain, and yesterday was Mother's Day in the US, Canada, Australia, South Africa, etc., this week we are going to look at words that are traditionally related to mothers and maternity. 

This week's first word is: Maternal

Definition 1: behaving or feeling in the way that a mother does towards her child, especially in a kind and loving way.  

Example 1: She is an excellent CEO; some say she is so successful because she is very maternal towards her employees.

Definition 2: related to a mother's side of the family.

Example 2: Her maternal grandmother is still alive. She's 95 years old and still lives alone. She's amazing.
