NEGOTIATION LANGUAGE: MAKING A NEW OFFER
NEGOTIATION LANGUAGE: MAKING A NEW OFFER: meaning and examples
Happy Friday, everyone!
I hope you've enjoyed our short week about Negotiation Language. We've learned how to show understanding and then make an objection. Today we will learn how to make a new offer.
Here are some of the many phrases you can use to make a new offer or propose a new idea.
What if... ( subject base verb)
How about... ( -ing)
Would it be possible to... ( base verb)
Would you consider ( -ing)
Is there any way we could ( base verb)
Here are some examples with complete sentences.
Example 1: What if we reduced the project length by 30%?
Example 2: How about asking management to combine departments?
Example 3: Would it be possible to increase employee productivity by 5%?
Example 4: Would you consider changing the work week to four 10-hour days?
Example 5: Is there any way we could hire a new person to manage the accounting department?
Remember, negotiating works best when we combine phrases from day one, two, and three of this week: first we show understanding, then politely object, and, finally, offer another option.
To get a little practice (and feedback), I encourage you to write a short dialoge on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter). Your dialogue should include the three types of phrases (understanding, objective and new offer).
