NEGOTIATION LANGUAGE: SHOWING UNDERSTANDING
NEGOTIATION LANGUAGE: SHOWING UNDERSTANDING: meaning and examples
Welcome back to the DV, everyone! I hope you enjoyed the break.
This week we are focusing on Negotiation Language. When negotiating, it's common to use this pattern:
1. Show your understanding of a person
2. Show (politely) that you disagree with this person
3. Make a new offer that works for both people
Each day, we will focus on the language needed for this type of conversation. We begin with #1: SHOWING UNDERSTANDING.
Here are some phrases you can use to show understanding.
I get / see your point.
I get / see where you are coming from.
I appreciate your point / position.
I know what you mean.
I hear what you are saying.
Can you think of some other ways to show understanding? Tell us on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter).
