NELSON MANDELA QUOTE: meaning and examples

Happy Friday, everyone! Welcome back to another Daily Vitamin lesson. I hope you have had a great week.

Today we look at one last famous quote, this time from Nelson Mandela.

The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. (Nelson Mandela)

With this quote, Mandela underscores the importance of resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity, emphasizing the value of learning from mistakes.

Once again, we can relate this quote to the process of learning a language. When we learn a language, it is necessary to fail. We can't expect to speak perfectly from the first day. We can't expect to understand everyone 100% after one year of study. To achieve a high level of English, we have to pass through the lower levels first: beginner, pre-intermediate, intermediate, upper-intermediate, etc. The more you "fail," the faster you will learn. If you avoid failure when learning a language, then you will never learn, or you will learn very slowly. Failing does not make you a failure; you're only a failure if you give up. If you are not failing when trying to learn English, then you are probably doing something wrong. You are stuck in your comfort zone. The trick is to accept your errors and your failures as part of the process of learning English, and rising every time you fail.

If you want to improve your English quickly, you have to be willing to "fail." By "fail" I mean, to make a mistake, to pronounce something incorrectly, to not understand someone fully when they are speaking, etc. The more you "fail" in this way, the faster you will learn. You need to get out of your comfort zone and be willing to fail as much as possible. If you need some guidance with this process of "failing," please do not hesitate to contact me by email (mray@ziggurat.es).

NOTE: There will be no Daily Vitamin on Monday because it's a bank holiday in Barcelona (for the second Passover).

I hope the rest of your day goes well and that you have an excellent weekend!
