NOT MY CUP OF TEA
NOT MY CUP OF TEA: meaning and examples
I hope you had a great weekend. England was in the news a lot last week because of the death of the British ex-prime minister, Margaret Thatcher. So, today we have a quintessentially British expression.
Today's expression is: It's not my cup of tea.
It means: that something is not to my taste; that I don't really like it.
Example 1:
I won't be watching the Formula 1 car race this week. It's not really my cup of tea.
Example 2:
Emma doesn't go to the theatre often. It's not her cup of tea.
As you can see, when you say that something is not your cup of tea, you're not saying anything about drinking tea! You are just saying that it is not your preference.
Enjoy your day!
