Meaning: used to describe something that is said without previous thought or preparation.

Example 1: 
Pascual made an off-the-cuff remark, and it was in all the newspapers the following day.

Example 2:
I'm only speaking off the cuff; I haven't seen the results, but my guess is that this year's profits will be down by at least 10 percent.
