OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD
OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD: meaning and examples
Good morning / afternoon / evening everyone, depending on when you are reading this. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope you had an excellent weekend (and a good Easter week).
Today we look at another common English idiom that we originally looked at back in February of 2006.
Today's expression is: OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD
Meaning: when you use the knowledge that you have in your memory. It can also indicate that something is being said or done without much forethought, preparation, or prior planning.
Example 1:
Pedro: This hummus is excellent. Can you give me the recipe?
Olga: Thank you. I don't have the recipe written down. I usually just prepare it off the top of my head.
Example 2:
Erik: How much did our company make last year?
Jordan: I can't provide you with exact figures right now; I'm can only give you estimates off the top of my head.

Now it's time for you to practice. I encourage you to come up with your own original sentence using today's expression. You can post your sentence on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter/X) and we will give you feedback about it ASAP.
Enjoy the rest of your day!
