ONOMATOPOEIA WORDS
ONOMATOPOEIA WORDS: meaning and examples
Hello everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin! I hope you had an excellent weekend.
This week we are going to look at different onomatopoeias in English. An onomatopoeia is a word that represents a natural sound. An example would be bang, which we use to represent the sound of a gunshot or, perhaps, a door slamming shut very loudly.
Today's 1st onomatopoeia is: Buzz
Meaning: the sound a bee makes, or the sound of an electronic hum.
Example 1: As I was falling asleep next to the pool, I could hear the buzzing of the bees on the flowers in the nearby garden.
Today's 2nd onomatopoeia is: Boom
Meaning: a loud, explosive sound, like thunder or an explosion.
Example 2: We suddenly heard a very loud boom, and realized that it was thunder. Shortly thereafter, it began to rain, and I quickly ran into the house to get out of the rain.
👉 BOOM! Now it's time for you to practice. Can you create a couple of sentences using these onomatopoeias? You can post your sentences on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter/X) and we will give you feedback about your sentences ASAP.
I hope you have a great day. All the best!
I wanted to suggest that you read my article about the 70-20-10 learning model. Can it be applied to language learning? https://www.ziggurat.es/blog/el-modelo-70-20-10-aplicado-a-los-idiomas/
