OVERWHELMING: meaning and examples
Hello again everyone... welcome back to another Daily Vitamin lesson.
Today's word is: overwhelming (adjective)
It means: Much larger, stronger, or more important than anything else in a situation; for example an overwhelming majority or an overwhelming desire.
Example 1: An overwhelming majority voted against his proposal.
Example 2: He felt an overwhelming desire to kiss his wife.
There is also a verb equivalent of this word (to overwhelm) which can mean to give a person too much of something. Something that overwhelms is very intense and hard to deal with.
Example 3: With telephone calls, emails, WhatsApp messages and people coming into my office, I often feel overwhelmed by work and the day-to-day activities. Sometimes I just need to stop and take a 10-minute break.
