PAST PERFECT (DURATION BEFORE SOMETHING IN THE PAST)Â : meaning and examples
Hello everyone! Today is the second Daily Vitamin lesson of our week about the Past Perfect.
Today we are looking at another use of this tense: DURATION OF AN ACTION OR SITUATION BEFORE ANOTHER MOMENT OR ACTION IN THE PAST.
We use the Past Perfect to show that something began in the past and continued in the past up until another moment or event (also in the past).Â
Example 1: I had lived in that apartment for ten years before I realized that there was a secret door in the kitchen floor.Â
Example 2: We had had problems with the washing machine for five years before it finally broke.Â
Example 3: He had taught English for 10 years before he decided to write a book.Â
That's it for today's lesson. Tomorrow we will focus on the Past Perfect vs. the Simple Past. We will see you then!
