PAY SOMEBODY BACK
PAY SOMEBODY BACK: meaning and examples

Today's expression is: to pay somebody back
It means: to return borrowed money.
Example 1:
Thanks for letting me borrow the 100 euros. I will pay you back as soon as I get paid. I promise!
Although this is not a difficult phrasal verb, I've included it because it's very common in conversation; much more common than 'return', and many people don't know it. Example 2 is also acceptable:
Example 2:
Thanks for letting me borrow the 100 euros. I will return it to you as soon as I get paid. I promise!
However, Example 1 is much more common in normal (informal) conversation.
