PAYROLL AND PAYSLIP
PAYROLL and PAYSLIP: meaning and examples
Hello everybody. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope you are having an excellent day!
Today we are, once again, revisiting two words that are often confused in English: Payroll and Payslip.
Meaning of PAYROLL: Payroll refers to the process of calculating and distributing payments to employees for their work. It involves tasks such as calculating wages or salaries. In Spanish it would be nómina de sueldos.
Example 1:
That Spanish company has a payroll of over 850,000€ per month.
Example 2:
That same company has over 350 people on the payroll.
Meaning of PAYSLIP: a payslip is a document that a company provides to an employee, on a regular basis, which details the employee's earnings and deductions for a specific pay period (e.g., monthly, bi-weekly, etc.).
Example 3:
My company always pays me by way of a direct deposit into my bank account; however, each month I receive my payslip by email.
We first looked at the difference between Payroll and Payslip back in February 2010. You can access that lesson at the following link: https://www.ziggurat.es/lecciones-ingles/pay-slip-vs-pay-roll/1405/
