PHRASAL VERB FRIDAY: 'ACT OUT'
PHRASAL VERB FRIDAY: 'ACT OUT': meaning and examples
On Wednesday we talked about Star Wars. On Thursday, we talked about a famous line from a film. This month is all about Hollywood and movies because of the Cannes Film Festival! Today we are continuing by looking at a phrasal verb with two definitions, and one is associated with acting: TO ACT OUT.
Definition 1: to perform a scene; to act.
Example 1: They acted the car accident out to show the police officer what happened.
Definition 2: to behave badly because you are unhappy or upset.
Example 2: The kids are acting out because they're tired of being in the car.
Example 3: After we changed nannies, my youngest really started acting out.
The first definition is TRANSITIVE and SEPARABLE. The second definition is INTRANSITIVE.
That's all for this week. I hope that you have a spectacular weekend!
