PHRASAL VERB FRIDAY: 'CALM DOWN': meaning and examples
For the last lesson of May, we are looking at the phrasal verb TO CALM DOWN.
Definition: to relax, especially after having extreme emotions like anger or excitement.
Example 1: Calm down; I'm sure we will find your keys.
Example 2: I have to calm my dog down after she sees a cat.
Example 3: He calmed down the driver after the car accident.
Notice that this phrasal verb is SEPARABLE and TRANSITIVE. You can CALM (YOURSELF) DOWN or you can CALM someone DOWN.
