PHRASAL VERB FRIDAY: 'FOOL AROUND': meaning and examples
Today is the first day of April, which is known as April Fool's Day in the English speaking world, as well as some other countries. This is the day that we often play jokes on people, making them feel like a "fool."
In honour of this day, we are looking at the phrasal verb TO FOOL AROUND.
Definition 1: to spend your time doing nothing useful.
Example 1: I fooled around all afternoon and didn't get any work done.
Definition 2: to behave in a silly way that might have dangerous results.
Example 2: I was fooling around and I accidentally dropped my phone and broke it.
Example 3: Stop fooling around in the house. You're going to break something!
Definition 3: to have a romantic (sexual) relationship.
Example 4: There are rumours that they are fooling around.
This phrasal verb is INTRANSITIVE.
