PHRASAL VERB FRIDAY: 'GO ON': meaning and examples

Good morning everyone. Happy Friday to all of you! Are you ready for your phrasal verb of the week? Today we are looking at the phrasal verb TO GO ON. As with many phrasal verbs, GO ON has several meanings. Today we are looking at two definitions. 

Definition 1: to continue.

Example 1: I can't go on working at this job. I don't like it. 

Notice that we follow GO ON with the gerund form of the verb (-ing)

Example 2: I asked her to continue with her speech, but she was too nervous to go on

Definition 2: to start working. 

Example 3: The light in my refrigerator goes on when I open it. 

Both of these phrasal verbs are INTRANSITIVE and INSEPARABLE.
