Definition 1: to grow your hair longer.
Example 1(a): I am growing my hair out, so I am not going to cut it.
Example 1(b): I am growing out my hair, so I am not going to cut it.
Notice that this phrasal verb is separable and transitive.
There is also a three-word phrasal verb, TO GROW OUT OF.
Definition 2: To develop or grow so you do not need something anymore.
Example 2: My child grew out of his new shoes in one month.
Example 3: My daughter grew out of playing with dolls. Now she likes music.
This phrasal verb is not separable, and it is transitive.
