PHRASAL VERB FRIDAY: 'KISS UP TO SOMEONE': meaning and examples
Definition: to be really nice (and sometimes fake) to get something from someone.
Example 1: Jake told our boss that he likes the new business plan, but then he told me that he hates it. He's obviously kissing up to the boss.
Example 2: I heard that student compliment the professor on her shoes. I think she's kissing up to her.
This is a NON-SEPARABLE phrasal verb, and although we do say that we KISS UP TO SOMEONE, we can also just say KISS(ING) UP.
Example 3: The saleswoman brought us all coffee before the meeting. Of course, she was just kissing up.
