PHRASAL VERB FRIDAY: 'SUCK UP TO SOMEONE': meaning and examples
Last Friday, we looked at the phrasal verb TO KISS UP (TO SOMEONE). Today we are looking at the expression TO SUCK UP TO SOMEONE. They are very similar.
Definition: to be overly friendly to someone in order to get something in return.
Example 1: He's sucking up to our boss by offering to work at the weekend.
Example 2: The waiter really sucked up to my dad during the dinner. I think he wanted a large tip.
Remember that this expression is quite informal.
