PHRASAL VERB FRIDAY: THREE-WORD PHRASAL VERB 'CATCH UP WITH': meaning and examples
As you know, on Phrasal Verb Friday the Daily Vitamin focuses on English phrasal verbs. For the month of October, we are looking at three-word phrasal verbs. Today we study TO CATCH UP WITH.
Definition 1: Something negative finally starts affecting you.
Example 1: I didn't sleep for two days and it caught up with me today. I slept for 12 hours!
Definition 2: To speak with someone after a long time of separation.
Example 2: After 10 years, I met Mary for coffee and caught up with her.
Example 3: It was so nice to catch up with you after so many years!
Notice that in each example, the name of the person (or a pronoun) follows the word WITH.
Example 4 (incorrect): **I talked to Sue and it was so nice to catch up with.**
Example 5 (correct): I talked to Sue and it was so nice to catch up with her.
