PHRASAL VERB FRIDAY: THREE-WORD PHRASAL VERB 'COME UP WITH': meaning and examples

Good morning everyone.

Today for Phrasal Verb Friday we look at another three-word phrasal verb. Today's phrasal verb is TO COME UP WITH.

Definition 1: to create; to develop

Example 1: I came up with a great science project idea.

Example 2: Did you come up with a title for your book yet?

Definition 2: to find or supply something when you have to improvise.

Example 3: We had very little in the refrigerator, but I was still able to come up with a nice dinner.

Notice how this phrasal verb is transitive: it requires an object (a science project, a title and a nice dinner). It also cannot be separated: the three words must go together, so the following sentence is NOT possible. It sounds horrible!

Example 4: **Did you come up a title for your book with yet?**

Next Friday we will continue our October series of three-word phrasal verbs. Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!
