PHRASAL VERB FRIDAY: 'WIND DOWN': meaning and examples

Welcome to the last Daily Vitamin post of the week! For today's Phrasal Verb Friday, we are looking at the verb TO WIND DOWN

Definition 1: to come to a close or an end.

Example 1: The dance is winding down. Let's go home.

Definition 2: to relax after a lot of stress or excitement.

Example 2: When I get home from work I like to wind down by listening to my favourite CD. 

Example 3: He winds himself down with a cup of tea and a good book. 

Depending on the context, this phrasal verb can be TRANSITIVE or INTRANSITIVE. It is also SEPARABLE when it takes an object.
