PHRASAL VERBS FOR ROMANCE (SETTLE DOWN): meaning and examples

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!

Today is the fourth day of our Phrasal-Verbs related-to-romance week.

Today we are looking at the phrasal verb TO SETTLE DOWN

Definition: To be in an exclusive, long-term relationship; to stop dating other people. Usually this is for serious relationships, and may even include marriage or the couple living together.

Example 1: I was tired of dating. I wanted to settle down. I'm so thankful I met Rob when I did. 

Example 2: I know he loves me, but he said he's not ready to settle down. I don't know what to do. 

Example 3: I thought I wanted to settle down, but after a year of living with Jack... I’m bored. Sometimes I think about being single again. 

This verb is INTRANSITIVE. However, you can also make it TRANSITIVE if you say SETTLE DOWN WITH SOMEONE. 

Example 4: He settled down with Mary after years of dating different women.
