PHRASAL VERBS FOR ROUTINES: meaning and examples

Hello everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin and a new academic year! I hope all of you had a wonderful summer, and I hope you were able to practice a bit of English during your vacation. ;-)

When summer ends, we get back to our daily / weekly routines. So, I thought it would make sense to revise some common English phrasal verbs that we use to speak about routines. That is, those habitual activities that we do every day, or almost every day.

Today's first phrasal verb for routines is: to wake up

Meaning: to stop sleeping and become conscious

Example: I wake up at 5:00 AM every day, except on the weekends. On the weekend I wake up at 7:00 AM.

Another, related, phrasal verb is to get up.

Meaning: to get out of bed after waking up.

Example: I usually get up immediately after I wake up.

So waking up is becoming conscious, and getting up is putting your feet on the floor and leaving your bed.

What time do you usually wake up / get up in the morning? For some practice, I encourage you to write your answer to my question on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter/X) and we will give you feedback about it as soon as possible (ASAP).

Enjoy the rest of your day and we'll see you tomorrow with some more phrasal verbs for routines.

All the best!
