PHRASAL VERBS FOR SUMMER (COOL OFF)
PHRASAL VERBS FOR SUMMER (COOL OFF): meaning and examples
Welcome back everyone, and happy Friday to you!
Today is our last Daily Vitamin lesson of the week; it’s also our last lesson for the 2018-2019 academic year. We are taking a break for the rest of this month and for August. We'll be back on September 16th.
We complete this year's lessons with one last Phrasal Verb for Summer: TO COOL OFF.
Definition 1: To become cooler (less warm).
Example 1: He jumped in the water in order to cool off.
Example 2: I love to cool myself off with a cold beer.
When used with this definition, the phrasal verb is optionally SEPARABLE.
Definition 2: To become calmer.
Example 3: Jim needs to cool off before we talk to him.
Example 4: Sometimes my child gets really angry; I give him a few minutes to cool off before we talk about what’s wrong.
When used with this definition, the phrasal verb is INTRANSITIVE.
That is all for this year’s Daily Vitamin. Thank you very much to all of you for connecting with us, participating in our challenges and games, and taking time out of your day to learn a little English. Remember... we have been producing the Daily Vitamin since 2003. If you want to continue learning English with us during our break, check out our archived lessons.
We will see you in September. Enjoy your summer, and take care.
