Welcome to our third Phrasal-Verbs-for-Summer day, everyone! Today we are learning the phrase TO COVER UP.
Definition 1: To conceal. In the context of summer, it can mean to wear more clothing over a bathing suit, for example.
Example 1: I have to cover myself up before we go into the restaurant.
Example 2: No one has to cover up on this beach. It’s a nude beach!
NOTE: the word for the dress that women wear over their bathing suits is called a COVER-UP. Now you know why.
There is also another definition for this phrasal verb that you might want to learn too.
Definition 2: To try to stop people from learning information about something.
Example 3: They tried to cover up the accident, but it was in the newspapers the next morning.
This phrasal verb, with both meanings, is optionally SEPARABLE.
