Definition: To suppress something; to hold something down or crumple it. 

Example 1: He keeps squashing his emotions down and that's not healthy. 

Example 2: Amazon squashes down smaller businesses who want to sell their products online. 

This phrasal verb is TRANSITIVE and optionally SEPARABLE
