Definition: To help someone to start a piece of work or activity.
Example 1: We started the patient off on a light exercise plan, and then we worked up to lifting weights and jogging.
Example 2: They started off the kids with the art project by letting them decide which colours to use.
This phrasal verb is transitive and is optionally separable.
