PHRASES WHILE WATCHING EUROPEAN FOOTBA: meaning and examples
Good day everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope you had a good weekend.
This week we are going to give you different phrases that you can use when watching European football, although some of the phrases would work for other sports too. I remember when I started watching football in Spanish, it was difficult to express myself (during the match), but little-by-little I improved my vocabulary around football.
There are so many options, but each day this week we are going to give you a few possibilities in context. Today's phrases are:
⇒ It's a nail-biter! (Referring to a very close and intense game.)
⇒ They're passing the ball around beautifully. (Complimenting a team's skilful ball movement.)
⇒ He's one-on-one with the goalkeeper! (Describing a player facing the goalkeeper alone.)
Following is a possible short dialogue using these three phrases.
Dialogue
Erik: It's a nail-biter! Both teams are giving it their all in this final match.
Paul: They're passing the ball around beautifully. It's mesmerizing to watch.
Erik & Paul: Look! Messi is one-on-one with the goalkeeper! This could be the winning goal!
Can you create original sentences or a dialogue using these phrases? You can post your dialogue/phrases on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter/X) and we will give you feedback on your writing as soon as possible.
Enjoy the rest of your day!
