PLAY / GO / DO (2)
PLAY / GO / DO (2): meaning and examples
Yesterday we explained the use of the verb TO PLAY to talk about sport activities. Today we look at another verb for physical activities.
Today's verb is: TO GO gerund
It is used: together with sport or physical activity nouns that end with the gerund (-ing) form (swimming, cycling, running, jogging, skiing, sailing, climbing, etc.). These activities usually convey the idea of movement from one place to another.
Example 1:
Diego goes mountain-climbing every weekend. He invited me to go with him once, but I said no. I enjoy going walking or hiking but going mountain-climbing would be too difficult for me.
Example 2:
We went skiing in the Rocky Mountains last year. It was an amazing experience! Next year we're going scuba-diving in Costa Rica. We love combining sport and holidays!
As you can see, we use the verb TO PLAY sports with balls or board games. We use GO sports that end in the gerund form and involve movement.
Tomorrow we will look at our final sport verb, TO DO.
Have a fun day!
