PLOT
PLOT: meaning and examples
In January 2012 we talked about strategies for watching films in English. Today's Daily Vitamin is about a word that appeared in some of those Vitamins.
Today's word is: PLOT
Meaning 1: the main story or the sequence of events in a book or a film
Example 1:
The plot of the film was very confusing. I couldn't understand if the main character was supposed to be a villain or a hero!
Meaning 2: A secret plan to do something illegal or bad.
Example 2:
There was a plot to blow up the embassy, but fortunately the police discovered the plans and now the suspected terrorists are under arrest.
Expression: the plot thickens!
Meaning: used to say that the plot or story has become deeper or more intriguing or even more confusing! This expression is often used to refer to mysteries.
Example 3:
Detective 1: We've found fingerprints all over the car and they don't belong to the prime suspect.
Detective 2: Hmmm, the plot thickens! Who else can we question?
