PRACTICALLY (REVIEW)
PRACTICALLY (REVIEW): meaning and examples
Good morning.
Today's Daily Vitamin was originally sent on December 1st, 2003 (exactly 3 years ago). I thought it would be worth reviewing.
************************************
Today's word is: practically (adverb)
It is very common in spoken English. It modifies adjectives and means something like 'virtually' or 'almost completely'. Consider example 1 below.
Example 1:
It's practically impossible to learn English if you only go to class.
This sentence means that it is virtually impossible or almost impossible to learn English by only going to class.
Now look at example 2.
Example 2:
Doug is working practically every day of the week; when does he rest?
Does Doug work everyday? No, but almost. We know he is working a lot (perhaps every day except Sunday).
We are prepared to answer practically any questions about this adverb. If you have any, please post them in the Daily Vitamin Plus! forum section on our website.
Enjoy your day and have an excellent weekend!
