PREFIXES --> OVER- / UNDER-
PREFIXES --> OVER- / UNDER-: meaning and examples
Happy Thursday everyone and welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope your day is going well.
Today, once again, we look at two common prefixes in English.
Today's first prefix is: OVER-
Meaning OVER-: Too much or excessive.
Example 1:
Many people who are overweight become overweight because they have been overeating.
Example 2:
The marketing director is overworking the members of the department. I hope he doesn't push them too hard... they may burn out.
Today's second prefix is: UNDER-
Meaning UNDER-: Below or insufficient.
Example 3: I don't want to work in this department anymore. I am overworked and underpaid!
I encourage you to write some sentences with some words that use these prefixes. You can add the prefix OVER- to ESTIMATE, REACT, ACHIEVE, SIMPLIFY or COOK. Or you can add UNDER- to ESTIMATE, VALUE, DEVELOP, COOK or PAY. You can post your sentences on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter/X) and we will give you feedback about them ASAP.
Thanks for your participation and have a great day!
