RECYCLING-5 (WRITING DATES)
RECYCLING-5 (WRITING DATES): meaning and examples
Good morning.
Today's recycled Daily Vitamin was originally sent on the 11th of December, 2003, and is very related to yesterday's Daily Vitamin about ordinal numbers. I hope you find it useful.
**************************************
The way we write and say dates is different in American and British English.
AMERICAN
Written
December 11 or December 11th
Spoken
December eleventh
As numbers
12/11/03 (Notice that the month comes first.)
BRITISH
Written
11 December, 11th December, December 11 or December 11th
Spoken
The eleventh of December or December the eleventh
As numbers
11/12/03
So, the U.S. dates are written and spoken with the month first, while the British generally put the day first (like in Spanish and Catalan).
Have a great day and a great weekend!
