RINGS A BELL
RINGS A BELL: meaning and examples
Good morning / afternoon / evening everyone, depending on when you are reading this. I hope you are having a good day. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin.
Today we look at another common expression that we use in English.
Today's expression is: it RINGS A BELL
Meaning: when we say that something rings a bell, we mean that it reminds us of something, but we can't remember exactly what it is. Another similar expression is to sound familiar.
Example 1: Her name rings a bell, but I'm not sure who she is. Do you have a photo of her?
Example 2:
Andrew: Have you ever seen the film "What Dreams May Come?"
Nancy: The title rings a bell, but I'm not sure. What's the film about?
Back in April of 2011, we did a Daily Vitamin that included this expression in it. You can see that lesson at the following link.

I hope you have a great day. We'll be back tomorrow with another expression.
