RIP-4: meaning and examples

Hello again.

Today we finish our study of expressions with the English word RIP.

Today's expression is
: to rip somebody / something apart / to shreds

Meaning: to destroy something; to criticize somebody very strongly.

Example 1
:
The critics ripped Paul Auster's latest novel apart.

Example 2:
Did you read the article about the mayor's new plan? The author of the story rips it to shreds. I think he makes some good points.
