RISE EXPRESSIONS-1: meaning and examples

Hello again.

Today and tomorrow we are going to cover a few expressions with the verb to RISE, as we did with raise.

Today's first expression is: to get a rise out of someone

Meaning: to make someone react in an angry way by saying something that we know will annoy or bother them, especially as a joke.

Example 1:
She used to tease her younger brother to get a rise out of him. Her mother always became very angry with her. (tease = tomarse el pelo)

Today's second expression is: to give rise to something

Meaning: to cause something to happen or exist.

Example 2:
The success of the Harry Potter novels gave rise to a number of Harry Potter films.

Example 3:
The news about his past gave rise to many questions about his ability to be president.
