SALE-1: meaning and examples

Good morning. I hope you enjoyed your weekend.

I have been living in Barcelona for more than thirteen years, and for the first time I have actually gone shopping (yesterday, on a Sunday) to take advantage of the first week of the January sales (rebajas). To celebrate this historic event (I didn't have a very good time), this week we will look at uses and meanings of the word sale.

Today's expression is: For sale

It means: Available to be bought, especially from the owner.

Example 1:
Our neighbours have put their flat up for sale. They are going to move to France. I had no idea. I found out when I saw the 'for sale' sign on the wall.

Example 2:
An increasing number of stolen bicycles are being offered for sale in Barcelona.

The meaning of this word in these contexts is en venta. What text does a 'for sale' sign have on it in Spanish? Usually se vende.

If you have any questions about these expressions, please use the Daily Vitamin Plus! forum section, which you can access (with your login and password) from our website (www.ziggurat.es).

Have a nice day.
