SLANG EXPRESSIONS (COOL): meaning and examples

Happy Monday, everyone. I hope you had a great weekend! Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin and another week of lessons.

This week we are going to look at some slang expressions in English. Some will be familiar, but we hope some of them will be new to you. 

Slang words and expressions are very informal language that is usually spoken rather than written.

Today's slang word is: cool

Meaning: Excellent or fashionable.

According to Wikipedia, many words and expressions have passed from African-American Vernacular English into Standard English slang, including the contemporary meaning of the word cool. This contemporary slang meaning is said to have been popularized in jazz circles by tenor saxophonist Lester Young.

Example 1: It’s really cool how quickly technology is changing the way we learn languages. 

Example 2: That new café in the city has such a cool atmosphere—great music, good coffee, and nice people.
