SLANG EXPRESSIONS (THROW SHADE): meaning and examples

Happy Thursday everyone and welcome back the Daily Vitamin. Today we offer another lesson about slang words and expressions in English.

Today's slang expression is: TO THROW SHADE

Meaning: to criticize or disrespect someone publicly, especially by indirect or subtle insults.

Example 1: This isn't the first time that the actor has thrown shade at his ex-wife in a press conference.

Example 2: She can throw shade like no one else, and she has had conflicts with some of the biggest names in showbusiness.

To practice your English, I encourage you to write a sentence (or two) with today's expression. You can post your sentences on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Bluesky) and we will give you feedback about your writing as soon as possible.

I hope the rest of your day goes very well. We'll be back tomorrow with the last lesson of the week.

All the best!
