SORT-2: meaning and examples
Today we continue our study of the English word SORT, which can be a noun or a verb. Today we look at SORT as a verb, and over the next few days we will look at expressions with SORT.
Today's word is: SORT (verb)
Meaning 1: to arrange things in groups or in a particular order based on their type; to separate things of one type from others.
Example 1:
Every morning the receptionist sorts the mail and distributes it to the different departments in the company.
Example 2:
Your rubbish should be sorted into plastics, glass, paper and organic material.
Meaning 2: to deal with a problem or organize something or someone in a satisfactory way. (informal)
Example 3:
It's our problem, but don't worry...we'll get it sorted.
